Struck right before the surrender of Mardin to Hulagu
Lot 1871
ISLAMIC, Anatolia & al-Jazira (Post-Seljuk). Artuqids (Mardin). Najm al-Din Ghazi I, AH 637-658 / AD 1239-1260. Half Dirham (Silver, 15 mm, 1.00 g, 4 h), citing the Ayyubid ruler al-Nasir II Yusuf (1236-1260), Mardin, circa AH 656-658 = AD 1258-1260. Album 1835. Rare. Very fine.

The rare half-dirhams without the name of the Abbasid Musta'sim (1242-1258) belong to the short period of time between the execution of Musta'sim by Hulagu in 1258 and the death of Najm al-Din Ghazi's I in 1260. They were likely struck right before the surrender of Mardin to the Mongol invaders
